Mood Board

The image below shows the mood board for our opening task. The mains themes we are dealing with is heart break and the want for justice and revenge. This creates a dark, mysterious atmosphere with the emotions of loss and heart break involved. Through soundtracks, body language and facial expression, the audience should be made to feel sympathy towards the husband who has lost his wife.

Props

As we have built on our idea for our opening sequence, we have begun to think about different props we can use to show different things.
Our first prop we will be using is a letter addressed to sir and madam, this will be seen just before we see the man sat having breakfast with an empty space next to him. This already suggests loss of something special.
We will also be using a wedding ring to hint to the audience that it was his wife that was murdered.
Furthermore, theres lots of different crime evidence we will be using as a prop to show his desperation and determination to find who ever killed his wife.
Finally, the use of a clock will show how he wants to do it as soon as possible as he is desperate for justice for his late wife, this also builds tension for the audience watching.

Setting

For our opening sequence we have chosen an average, normal kitchen to show his life before his wife was killed in contrast to a dark, dirty room filled with investigation papers and pictures. This heavily portrays the great change this murder has effected his life which gives him more determination to find the murderer and get revenge. The dark setting also reflects his depressed, sad emotions at this time. He will also be seen leaving the light kitchen and walking into the dark room, this shows him literally walking out of the happiness he once had in his life and now stepping into a unstable, emotional state of mind.

Inspiration..

We've been looking at a website called 'Art of the Title' which has many different opening sequences.
One of the main ones I have been looking at is Gone Girl which is linked below:
http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/gone-girl/
I liked the way in which they had a soundtrack throughout but also added a voice over to almost narrate the situation. I also thought the dark setting was used really well to present the eery atmosphere of it. Finally, I liked the way they presented their titles and I personally think the way they did their titles could fit the genre of ours too.

Our Idea..

Myself and Maya have come up with the idea for our production task. Through inspiration of watching other opening sequences and looking at mood boards we have decided to do a murder mystery with the emotions of heart break and vengeance involved. Our story is about a man who has lost his wife to murder. The film will show him trying to seek vengeance and get justice for his wife by finding the murders, through this, he also has to deal with the harsh reality that all he has left of her is memories. This is reflected through flash backs. We are having some main props such as a clock, a candle and a wedding ring. The clock shows the tension, the candle shows the mysterious side of it as it is blown out at the end and the wedding ring shows the heart break side of it. We want the audience to feel sympathy for the man as he is heart broken.

Foundation Portfolio- Main Task Brief

Our task is to create our own opening sequence of a fiction film. This must include titles and sound effects. As its only a opening sequence it's duration will only be 2.5-3 minutes long. Our aim is to not tell the whole story but still make people want to continue watching. Its been made clear to us that the music must not be copyrighted and that we should perhaps use different sound effects throughout to reflect different moods and feelings.

Preliminary Task

Maya and I have filmed and edited a short clip. We made sure we used match on action, shot reverse shot and tried to make it look as smooth as we could using continuity editing. We also tried to involve the rule of thirds to make sure the main action in the shot is in the right places.
